Attendance tracking

Student check-in app: attendance confirmed before class starts

The student confirms attendance on their phone, the spot is reserved instantly, and the teacher arrives at class with the list ready.

No paper lists, no counting group messages, and no finding out at the water's edge how many people will actually show up. Each class has a spot limit, and IMUA Checkin manages this limit in real time: when it fills up, the student joins the waitlist and is automatically called up if someone cancels.

How check-in works in 3 steps

From class scheduling to the closed attendance list, everything in one place.

  1. 01

The teacher creates the class and sets the spots

Date, time, location, level, and number of spots. The class can be drop-in or recurring, and the teacher sets when check-in opens for students.

  2. 02

The student confirms attendance from their phone

The student opens the app, sees the teacher's upcoming classes, and taps to check in. The spot is reserved instantly — and they can cancel via the app if plans change.

  3. 03

The list updates in real time

Each confirmation shows up instantly on the teacher's list and on the spot counter. If the class fills up, the next ones join the waitlist in order of arrival.

How it works for the student

Students don't need to request a spot via message or wait for a reply. They see what is available and handle it on their own in a few taps.

  • View upcoming classes and remaining spots

List with date, time, duration, location, level, and how many spots are left in each class.

  • Confirm or cancel in a single tap

The check-in button is available within the window defined by the teacher. If they need to cancel, the student does it directly in the app, freeing up the spot for someone else.

  • Join the waitlist when the class fills up

If someone cancels, the first person in line is automatically moved up and notified via mobile push notification and email.

How it works for the teacher

The teacher tracks each class's capacity without asking anyone and keeps full control of the group in the palm of their hand.

  • Always up-to-date confirmed list

Who confirmed, who is on the waitlist, and how many spots remain, updated in real time on the class screen.

  • Manual check-in when needed

The teacher can check in a student who showed up last minute or couldn't use their phone, right from the class screen.

  • Unified spot counting

Group students, single classes sold, and visitors all count toward the same capacity. No spot is ever double-booked.

What changes in the school's routine

Less manual headcount before class and more predictability to organize staff and equipment.

  • Arrive at class with the list ready

The teacher arrives at the class with an organized list, reducing manual headcount before the activity.

  • No more confirmations via message

Attendance no longer depends on loose messages in group chats that get lost and have to be counted manually.

  • Real capacity respected

The number of spots is controlled by the system, even with multiple people confirming at the same time.

  • Organized attendance history

Organized attendance data for tracking and reports, class by class.

Frequently asked questions about student check-in

What happens when all spots in the class are filled?
The student joins the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis. If someone cancels, the system automatically promotes the first person in line and notifies them via push notification and email. The system recalculates capacity before promoting, so the class never exceeds the spot limit.
Can the teacher check in for a student?
Yes. On the class screen, there is an option to check in on behalf of a student, useful for anyone who showed up last minute or couldn't use their phone at the time. Their name goes onto the same confirmed list.
Can the student cancel their check-in?
Yes, right in the app. The spot is freed up immediately, and if there is a waitlist, the next student is automatically called up.
Does the student need to install an app from the store?
No. IMUA Checkin works in your mobile browser and can be installed on your home screen as an app without going through an app store. Check-in requires an internet connection at the time of confirmation.
Can you control when check-in opens?
Yes. The teacher sets when check-in becomes available for each class, and the student sees the time when confirmation opens right on their screen.
Do visitors and drop-in students appear on the same list?
Yes. Group students, drop-in class participants, and visitors are all included in the same capacity count and class list, so the teacher sees exactly who will be on the water.
